Having just finished filming for the Dark Knight Rises, Bale told The Philippine Daily Inquirer that “I wrapped a few days ago so that will be the last time I’m taking that cowl off.”  He added “I believe that the whole production wrapped yesterday, so it’s all done. Everything’s finished. It’s me and Chris – that will be the end of that Batman era.”

Personally when I heard that The Dark Knight was getting made I was both excited and dreading the possible downfall of the Batman series that had been so expertly revived in 2005.  The Dark Knight too the world by storm and, while it has its naysayers, it’s certainly one of my favorite movies.  Can Dark Knight Rises top it?  It’s hard to say, but Christopher Nolan originally said he wouldn’t do a sequel to The Dark Knight unless he had absolute faith that he could in fact top it.  With word that The Dark Knight Rises being the final chapter, I’m left to wonder if it’s for the best or secretly hope that Nolan and Bale could ride this wave of gritty awesome forever.

If it does mark the end of the Nolan era of Batman, let’s hope that the studios let it be.  I don’t think anyone wants to see the return of the bat-nipples and Mr. Freeze puns.

Just try to Google Image Search that...
